Captain's Log: Week 02, 2025

We kicked off the week with a SoulCycle class in Santa Monica. I’d heard great things and had been wanting to try it for ages. Now, with Laura as a recent convert, and the turn of the New Year it was the perfect time. The class didn’t disappoint and left us feeling totally energised and ready for the day. I’d lined up appointments to explore local co-working offices. I’ve never been a fan of working from home full time; I thrive on the energy of people wherever I am. So, I turned the day into a quest to uncover hospitality at co-working spaces along Main Street.
The journey began at Mud\Wtr Gather. I actually just needed a place to do some work while I was waiting for my first meeting, but this place also has membership options and hot-desk options. I stayed in their general cafe area and tried an OG, for a non-caffeinated, non-hazy mushroom boost. That’s one of their drink products created to help you rise with just a fraction of it by blending mushrooms and herbs to give you energy, focus, and immune support without the jitters and crash. Another first for me, but as someone who will eat just about anything except mushrooms, I was pleasantly surprised. Next up was Beach House CoWork for a site visit. Their philosophy that life, inspiration, and motivation are better by the beach definitely sounded very plausible, and their rooftop was certainly an extra selling point. Then I doubled back to meet the team at Kinn, who have a beautifully designed space up toward Venice. A network, accelerator and collaborative workspace for conscious entrepreneurs, their memberships come complete with ice-plunge and sauna sessions, yoga, and wellness programs. How zen!
I wrapped up the afternoon at Firestone Brewing Company with a non-alcoholic beer. Dry January may have been in full swing, but I love a brewery vibe and their Venice Taproom has great space and welcoming atmosphere.
