Portland & Beyond: A Bespoke Pacific Northwest Journey
At Cape, we believe travel should feel effortless, curated, and completely yours. From city streets lined with bookstores and breweries to waterfalls crashing into mossy gorges and sunsets along the Oregon coast, the Pacific Northwest offers a world of contrasts.
This four-day itinerary is an example of how Cape crafts bespoke travel programmes — balancing culture, adventure, and rest, while handling every detail from permits to lodging. Imagine yourself here…
Day 1 – Best Things to Do in Portland, Oregon
Your journey begins in Portland, a city where creativity thrives. Wander through the Pearl District, pause at the lively waterfront, and lose yourself among the endless shelves at Powell’s City of Books, the world’s largest independent bookstore.
When you’re ready for nature, step onto the Lower Macleay Trail for a hike to Pittock Mansion, with sweeping views over the skyline. Or explore the Hoyt Arboretum and stroll through the Portland Japanese Garden inside the International Rose Test Garden.
As evening arrives, Portland’s food scene shines. Choose from global flavors at Pine Street Market, explore the buzzing food cart pods, or settle into a brewery like Deschutes. End your night with a cocktail at Rontoms before resting at Hotel Rose – A Staypineapple Hotel, where complimentary bikes await your next day’s adventure.

Day 2 – Best Waterfall Hikes Near Portland & Mt. Hood Adventures
Start the morning at Vista House, where panoramic views reveal the vast Columbia River Gorge. A short drive leads to Latourell Falls, a 2.4-mile loop where water tumbles down columnar basalt cliffs. Next, walk the iconic path to Benson Bridge at Multnomah Falls, where mist rises all around you.
Lunch at Multnomah Falls Lodge provides a cozy pause before the scenic drive to Mt. Hood. At Trillium Lake, circle the 2-mile loop as Oregon’s tallest peak reflects perfectly on the still water.
Your evening retreat: Skamania Lodge, a mountainside haven with pools and hot tubs, where relaxation comes naturally.

Day 3 – Exploring Mount St. Helens: Ape Cave & Lava Canyon
Head north to Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument for an unforgettable underground adventure. At Ape Cave, you’ll descend into a lava tube formed over 2,000 years ago — a surreal two-hour hike lit only by headlamps. With temperatures inside around 42°F, warm layers are essential.
Later, follow the Lava Canyon trail, where dramatic landscapes reveal the raw power of past eruptions. By afternoon, the scenery shifts as you drive west to the Oregon Coast, arriving at Cannon Beach in time to watch the sun set behind the famous Haystack Rock. Stay the night at the welcoming Sandy Cove Inn, just steps from the shoreline.

Day 4 – Best Things to Do in Cannon Beach, Oregon
Your final day begins at Ecola State Park, with the Clatsop Loop Trail winding through coastal forests to dramatic ocean views. Back in town, rent a bike for a breezy coastal ride, or grab a surfboard to catch your first Pacific waves.
At low tide, explore the tide pools around Haystack Rock, where starfish and sea anemones brighten the shoreline. After one last look at the waves, it’s time to return to Portland — just 90 minutes away, but a world apart.
